Art by Syd/Adabear Art, huge inspiration and author of the webcomic Monsterhead!

This was a commission I got closer to the end of Book 1 — where it occurred to me I didn’t really have that much art of the trio together, and wanted to get something that harked back to the “space resolution scene”… one of my favourite scenes IN Book 1!

The sleepy, dreamy whimsical vibes that you get with scenes like this in SlumberTown is what makes it such a magical place to me. This resolution scene is the most heartfelt and “happy” part of the book. It’s a resolution that felt very rewarding for me — to come to this stopping point in Romy’s journey, where they’re able to secure friendships with their two coworkers at the Lost and Found. And it’s great to have Romy in their element, in an environment that has always felt safe and familiar to them… outer space, among the stars!

Syd’s art and comics have always had a really distinct, colorful and stylistic feeling to them — one that inspired me to explore all the things I could do with colors in my own work. I’ll also never forget how much it meant to me when she supported my comic way back in the early days. Getting this commission of the trio from him was a real treat! : )
