Welcome to SlumberTown!

Population: 32

Romy, a socially anxious retriever, is the newest resident to move to Slumber: A seemingly quiet ghost town. Seemingly. Because this unsuspecting town ALSO happens to exist as a collective dreamscape of 32 trapped villagers!

Most of the residents, including Romy, can’t quite remember why they moved to Slumber… or how. Some memories get repressed, while others resurface. Life in Slumber isn’t entirely normal – but then again, neither are its residents. As Romy, with their social anxiety, struggles to fit into this strange community… they are also faced with many mysteries and challenges. Waking nightmares, a telepathic cellphone, and an antagonistic psychologist, just to name a few. All the while, they set out to try to help the residents with their personal problems, hoping to make their lives in Slumber – and with each other – a little easier.

Will Romy and the other 31 residents discover how to leave Slumber and get back home? Or will they find community with each other, regardless of the circumstances?

What – or who – is keeping them there?

And why?

About the Author/Artist

Thanks for checking out my webcomic! My name is Mac Hamrick, probably better known under my alias Macxi. I’m a writer and (self-taught) comic artist from Colorado. I’m one of those Internet furries your parents warned you about back in the day.

I’ve been making SlumberTown since 2018, mostly as a hobby and through the Patreon support I get every month. I have a Bachelors in creative writing, which is a pretty useless degree as far as an actual career is concerned (especially these days) but it does go to show that I’ve been super passionate about writing stories from a pretty young age. That’s something that’s never really changed about me.

I started SlumberTown in the interest of creating a big epic (and Magnum Opus, I suppose) that I could focus the bulk of my passion and creative livelihood into. As such, I tend to have this peculiar habit of using the characters and stories to explore a vast array of struggles I learn to process and cope with in my own life. How strange. These often include what I suppose could often be relatable experiences for other people – especially neurodivergent, as that seems to be the kind of audience my comic often reaches. I like to explore a variety of themes through my work – everything from anxiety, grief, religious trauma or just the persistent feeling of being an outsider among people who would deem themselves “normal” in our “normal” society. Learning how to cope with life’s traumas and building meaningful relationships and community with others, despite it all.

I hope you can find something in SlumberTown that resonates with you too. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I think there’s a little something for everyone in there, if you’re inclined to look.
