Partly Cloudy End – Thanks for Reading!
Thank you again. So much. Partly Cloudy officially wraps up our second SlumberTown book! <3
I know the format of the special episodes was a little different and unexpected, especially from what you’ve gotten used to seeing in Book 1: The Pearl of the main webcomic. But I found the project very rewarding, and I hope you did too.
As Boone is one of the two major deuteragonists in my series, chronically, it made sense for him to have a big story of his own before moving into Book 2: Labyrinth (for reasons you’ll see with that time skip, too – like the inference that Boone has started to become Romy’s first “therapy patient” behind the scenes!).
Throughout the series, I have plans for four special episodes. This was the 1st of 4. And while they not be as mystery-driven and exciting as the main comic, they’ll offer a wider glimpse of the town and the characters who inhabit it. While optional, they provide a crucial part of the “Full SlumberTown Experience” – and as such, I’m really happy to see a good chunk of my readers were receptive to Partly Cloudy.
I can’t begin to thank you all enough for reading my series. And supporting it! I’m very excited to return to the main comic with Book 2: Labyrinth (technically, our third book in the chronology!). And I hope you’ll return here again for the next special episode. I’m glad there are people out there who can enjoy this town and these characters as much as I do. And fortunately, I have no plans of stopping soon!
Proud and excited to deliver the finale to my second book today. Thanks so much for reading Partly Cloudy. Boone is a character who means a lot to me, and I hope many of you have come to love him too.
See you on February 4th, 2024… for the launch of Labyrinth!
Congratulations on wrapping the project, and feeling okay to experiment with a new format!
Thanks, Simon!!! Thanks for reading and catching up with it! I don’t think Partly Cloudy had as much readership as the main comic, but I had a lot of fun with it and I feel like it’s an important staple to the series. I also look forward to doing the other three special episodes when the time comes, too. The experimentation is a lot of fun~
I loved this. When I saw what the format of this side episode was going to be back in 22 I knew I had to give it time to complete (I’m not good with text heavy formats when they’re also electronic so I’d rather binge it) and I’m glad I came back to catch up. Slumbertown discusses ‘taboo’ feelings (depression, anxiety, mental health in general) with a seriousness that I usually only really see in horror media, but this also manages to be lighthearted when it can be. I don’t know there’s something unique about Slumbertown that clicks with me
Gosh, your comment really means so much to me. Yeah, I wasn’t all too sure about how the format of Partly Cloudy would come across to people. It was actually planned to be a lot more prose heavy than it is, in the interest of realistically completing more side stories alongside the main comic. I’m glad it ended up being more of a hybrid, because it still has the “feel” of the main comic despite the slower pacing in the prose (allowing it to have these lengthier conversations and moments). These side episodes are supposed to feel a bit slower paced than the main story, where there’s just more focus on the town residents and their relationships with one another.
It really warms me to hear your thoughts on it, because it’s more or less what I was going for. : ) Partly Cloudy was actually the brainchild of my own ADHD diagnosis, and a lot of it was written while working to understand those struggles in my own life. Now that you mention it, it’s true that you often see mental health topics in more of those horror-esque stories – it’s an interesting angle for sure, but generally not one that I tend to take. A lot of my mental health focus in my own life is geared toward finding healing and community, and SlumberTown tends to take on a similar essence. Thank you so much for reading and enjoying it.
