Art by SilverLunarwing, author of Shinka: The Last Eevee!

First guest art I wanted to feature this month is this commission I got a couple years ago of Romy and Echo having a casual yet intimate moment with each other. This was commissioned pretty early on in SlumberTown’s production — I don’t think I’d been doing the comic for a full year yet! It was always important to me in Book 1 to establish the roots of Romy and Echo’s relationship: two awkward introverts learning to communicate and process their feelings together.

Because Romy is highly empathetic and outwardly emotional and Echo is — by contrast — a bit hardened and emotionally repressed, they have to work harder to build that bridge of communication and trust. Over time, they have the potential to learn a lot from each other.

I wanted to commission this from SilverLunarwing because the original iteration of her comic was one of my earlier influences for getting into webcomics later down the road. Her comics and stories always had a very heartwarming element to them at their core. I thought she’d do a good job of capturing the “calm” and the “quiet” of their relationship — and she did! This is still one of my favourite pieces of the two of them together.
