Actually seeing Boone have a genuine moment of embarassment and self-reflection without it immediately turning into self-loathing is nice. You’re getting there, buddy.
It is! : ) I think you can draw the comparison too to the way he reacted to Echo back in Book 1 – the way she confronted him in their argument when he immediately started doing the “woe is me” act. That tends to be the natural rhythm of his emotions with RSD. First highly defensive and fiery, then self-loathing.
This is the point where he starts to realize “hold up, I just need a bit of space and a minute to calm down”. He knows he sometimes says stuff he regrets when his emotions spike. And he really suffered the consequences of that when he snapped at Romy a few chapters back.
